Audi r8 v10 is the best car for the money in its class. It has been around for a while, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t still one of the best cars on sale.

  • The engine, the gearbox, and the cabin design are all great. The handling is very good, and this car feels like a race car. The engine note is loud but it can be heard at speeds of only 20mph to 25mph on most highways.

    And what really sets it apart from all others: is that unmistakable sound that echoes around you and makes you want to turn your head away in embarrassment for the people who are not driving a car like this one.

    “So how does it feel to drive?” I ask him as he sits behind his wheel with his door open and prepares to leave. He looks at me questioningly and asks “How do I look?” before giving me a thumbs up. My face is red as hell! “It feels great! It feels perfect! This is exactly what I was looking for when I got my license six years ago. The only thing missing now is a manual transmission… but we can make that happen too if you need me to help out on that front.”
  • The R8 Turbo is the only model in this segment to offer all-wheel drive with a V10, and does so without turbocharging or downsizing. It’s a beautiful engine, one of the best in the world. It revs to 10,000rpm and sounds glorious. But it does have a weakness – its peak torque arrives at 5500rpm, so you’re constantly fighting against turbo lag. The R8 V10 is also not as flexible as its rivals’ supercharged or turbocharged four-cylinder engines.

    The R8’s chassis is superbly balanced. It delivers excellent grip and steering precision even on unassisted steering systems (although many will wonder why Audi hasn’t fitted an electric power steering system). The standard six-speed manual gearbox has short throws but no lash changes; if you want more speed, it’s better to opt for the seven-speed dual-clutch Sportshift transmission that comes with paddle shifters and can be shifted manually via paddles behind the wheel or by using buttons on the center console.   • Audi has already confirmed that the R8’s successor will be an all-electric car. The R8 will be discontinued in the US market by early next year, to make way for the new Q7.

    The thing is though, Audi’s current flagship V8-powered model isn’t exactly a slouch on paper. Its 4.2-liter twin-turbo V8 produces 552bhp and 443lb-ft of torque – that’s more than the Lamborghini Gallardo (500bhp) and McLaren 12C (450bhp).
  • Another R8 may come along, perhaps with electric or hybrid power, but if you are looking for an Audi with a V10 engine, now’s the time to go to the dealership. The Audi R8 V10 is a rare car these days and one that you’ll want to own.
  • We’ve loved the R8 and will be sorry to see it go. It’s the only car that feels like a proper GT in all but name – and it’s so much more than that.

    It’s safe to say we never thought we would miss a manual gearbox, but the R8 is one of the very few cars that actually makes this feel like an advantage rather than a massive disadvantage. Even though there are now eight ratios on offer, it still feels perfectly competent with the clutch pedal. It just takes time to get used to changing up at such low speeds and then downshifting when you want to overtake or pass another vehicle. And there are some moments where you just can’t help yourself from trying to gun it out of corners. But again, once you learn how not to do this in everyday driving situations (and even if you don’t) the experience becomes far less frustrating than other cars with similar power outputs will ever be…

    The car has a very nice looking design. The front fascia is dominated by the large air intake for the 3.2-liter engine which sits at the front of the hood. The exhaust pipes are also visible from behind in a somewhat less subtle way than on other sports cars such as Ferrari or Lamborghini models. The rear end features two round taillights, a large spoiler that extends to cover the trunk lid, and an integrated diffuser beneath it all giving this one of those “aerodynamic” looks that everyone loves nowadays. I don’t know if they actually work but they sure look good! Unlike most high-performance cars these days, this one doesn’t have any active aerodynamics like wings or spoilers so I guess it doesn’t need them to perform well!

  • The most affordable non-Hybrid rear-drive 2022 R8 coupes still come with heated/18-way power-adjustable seats with pneumatic bolsters, automatic climate control, Virtual Cockpit, self-dimming mirrors, stainless steel pedals, front/rear parking sensors, and a sport suspension. For some reason, there are two instances of “the” in this sentence and I think that is incorrect. Also, how would the Sports Suspension be a sports suspension? If you are going to correct it then please make sure to fix those other mistakes as well.  The most expensive, the $107,700 V10 RWS, adds adaptive dampers and a limited-slip differential. All have carbon fiber trim except for the base car’s aluminum trim.

    The Sportback has the same interior as the coupe but with Alcantara seats instead of leather. It also gets heated/power-adjustable seats with pneumatic bolsters and other features from its more luxurious sibling-like premium audio and navigation systems, LED headlights, LED taillights, and wireless phone charging.
  • TThe infotainment system includes Wi-Fi, satellite radio, navigation, wireless charging, phone signal boosting, and a microphone set into the seat belt for voice control and phone calls.
  • The 7 Series will also be equipped with a new wireless charging pad, which BMW is calling “Intelligent Charge.” The pad can charge the vehicle at speeds up to 1.1 kW, and it can handle all Qi-compatible devices — including smartphones, tablets, and smartwatches — that are within range and have a USB Type-C connector.

    BMW says it’s already offering an option on select models for this feature in Europe, but there’s no word yet if it will appear on U.S.-spec vehicles when they arrive here. In any case, we’d expect the 7er to offer this standard or perhaps as an optional extra cost upgrade over time as more smartphone owners become familiar with its use.

  • The flat-bottomed steering wheel allows drivers to slide their knees under more easily than if it was completely round, while the red ignition button — just a thumb-stretch away from the quarter-to-three position — never fails to spark a shiver of excitement every time it’s pressed. It’s the most powerful engine in its class, too, and it’s got a fair amount of poke to go with that.

    The B-Class is not quick off the mark but there’s enough power on tap to make sure you won’t be left behind if you need it. It takes a while to get up to speed but once you do, all you have to do is steer the car into a corner and keep your foot planted firmly on the accelerator — even when things start getting tight at the back end of bends — and it will just pull away from other vehicles around you. The steering feels light at low speeds but has plenty of heft through corners giving it excellent feedback without being overly twitchy.

Exterior Styling

  • Various elements (like the front and rear spoilers) are finished in black, but the exhaust tips are chromed. The car also wears a set of new 19-inch alloys, wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 rubber.

    The interior is where the changes are most noticeable. The carbon fiber trim and Alcantara inserts that have been fitted to the S63’s cabin are now standard fitment across this range, as is an upgraded steering wheel with red stitching, aluminum pedals, and a similar pattern to the brakes (which were previously black). This brings the interior closer to that present on the Coupe version.
